Berg
Otto Berg, Wolf's father, lived from 23.11.1874 to May 1939. He was a German scientist, credited with being a co-discoverer, together with Walter Noddack and Ida Tacke, of the element Rhenium in 1925.

He obtained a PhD in physics in Freiburg, Germany, in1898
He married Julia Zuntz, a qualified teacher, on 10.03.1900 (see the Zuntz page)
They had 4 children - Eva, Heinz, Wolfgang (Wolf) and Richard - see family tree
He taught physics at the universities of Greifswald and then Göttingen
In 1912 he obtained a diploma in building construction (Hochbau) at the Technical University of Darmstadt thus qualifiying as an architect, and subsequently built one house in Jugenheim, Germany
In 1913 the family moved back to Berlin where Otto worked in the research department of Siemens Halske until losing his position when the Nazis came to power in 1933.
He served in the German Army in Turkey during the World War I and was awarded a second class Iron Cross in 1916.
Because of their Jewish ancestry he and his wife Julia were forced to flee Germany in 1938 and moved to England to stay with Wolf and Lisa. He died in 1939
